Abstract: Video presents 4 prototype designs for independently operated power wheelchair footrests developed at Georgia Tech's Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA) The four-bar linkage, track slide, motorized, and spring-loaded designs allow wheelchair users to independently lift and lower a center-mounted footrest. For each prototype, the primary designer describes how the design works, demonstrates how to operate the mechanism, and discusses its advantages and limitations. Running time: 5:16.
